TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Michael Brown Jr., 19, entered a not guilty plea Monday afternoon in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to charges of involuntary manslaughter and burglary stemming from a Feb. 20 botched burglary attempt on Galena and Michigan streets.

Brown's bond was set at $260,000 and his trial date was set for June.

Brown was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury March 2, five days after he was arrested in connection to of an alleged break-in of a correction officer's home on Galena near Michigan streets.

The homeowner, identified as Sedric Joplin, had just returned home to find three people inside. He opened fire killing one of them, 21-year-old Christopher Childress, and injuring Brown.

Joplin was not charged.

A Lucas County grand jury did not indict the homeowner, but did indict Brown on charges of involuntary manslaughter and burglary.

Mr. Childress was laid to rest Feb. 27 before family and friends held a candlelight vigil.

Even though Brown wasn't the one to pull the trigger, the teen is being charged with involuntary manslaughter because he was an accomplice with Childress in a felony.

Toledo police detectives also arrested 34-year-old Jason Peace. He was charged with burglary.
