PERRYSBURG, Ohio (WUPW) - A local chocolate buckeyes business is booming ahead of the holidays and the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry. Marsha's Homemade Buckeyes in Perrysburg has been in business for 28 years.
Marsha Smith started the candy business with her mother-in-law's recipe. The business started small - she started selling the chocolate and peanut butter buckeyes at garage sales, then the candy was soon in stores and restaurants. The candy business supplies local retailers like The Andersons and restaurants nationwide like Cracker Barrel.
Workers have been pretty busy in recent weeks trying to get orders done for the holidays, making about 35,000 buckeyes a day.
Smith recently accomplished one of her biggest goals as her choclate buckeyes were served at both the Schottenstein Center and Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Smith says the business has also helped her put two of her sons through school at The Ohio State University.
Smith is now retired, her two sons are now in charge of the business.
