HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (WUPW) - HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (WUPW) -- Crystal Bowersox of Elliston has advanced to the Top 24 on American Idol Season 9.
It's now time for the live shows, where America will make the final decisions.
Unfortunately another local contestant did not advance. Luke Shaffer, who goes by the stage name Luke James, did not make the cut.
But the news was much better for Bowersox, an Ottawa County native, who got the green light from the judges Wednesday evening during the final selection show.
The former student of the Toledo School for the Arts was called "Mama Sox" during Wednesday evening's show.
Her former teachers describe her as a strong songwriter, with a great passion for the music.
"You know my excitement is on the inside," she said. "Everybody is like, you know, all right you're smiling. I am. I am. I am letting it out. I am just that mellow."
Simon Cowell asked her if this was the kind of competition for her, but she told him flat out that she wants this very badly.
Shaffer, who grew up around Bowling Green, now calls New York City his home.
Bowersox and the other 11 females will compete for the first time live in television next Tuesday, Feb. 23, right here on FOX Toledo.
