TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Toledo's Black and White Cab Company is making it easier to catch a ride home. Their new 'B4UDRIVE' application and their new texting capability will hopefully lead more people to use cabs rather than drink and drive.
The application is available for BlackBerry, Android, and iPhone.
It asks for your gender, weight, what you've been drinking, how much, and for what period of time. It then tells you what your blood alcohol level is, and if you are legally able to drive according to government standards.
If you can't drive, all you have to do is insert your location, hit a button, and a cab is on the way. The eventual plan is for every area bar to have an individual code, making it even easier for a cab to find you.
The cab company says safety is their number one concern, and bars like the Blarney in Downtown Toledo are getting involved too.
Tonight the Blarney hosted a kick-off celebration for the app along with their new texting capability, that lets you text the word 'ride' when you are ready to go, avoiding busy signals and dropped calls.
"As a bar owner, it's very exciting because these are our customers." said Ed Beczynski, Blarney Owner. "We want to get them here of course, but we want them to get home safe too."
Scott Potter, Owner of Black and White Cab Company , says his is the first cab company to do this around here. He plans on selling his app to cities across the country.
"You can be on the dance floor and texting black and white and know that it's coming within 5 to 20 minutes." said Potter.
So if you need a ride, don't hesitate to text.
