RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WUPW) - An accident between a motorcycle and a semi tractor trailer Wednesday afternoon in Western Lucas County killed one person and forced the closure of Western Central Avenue.
The accident took place around 3:30 p.m. on West Central Avenue between Richfield Center Road and State Rt. 295 (North Berkey Southern Road) in Richfield Township, west of Spuyten Duyval Golf Course and Secor Metropark.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a motorcycle was heading eastbound on Central Avenue was attempting to pass another vehicle. The motorcycle came into the path of the semi, that was traveling westbound on Central.
The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, collided with the semi head-on, the state patrol said.
The victim was identified as 66-year-old David Underwood of Sylvania.
The semi driver was not injured.
The posted speed limit on West Central in Richfield Township is 55 mph.
The stretch of road was closed for several hours after the accident for reconstruction and clean-up, the state patrol said.
The crash remains under investigation.
