LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan has started an eight-state tour to cheer on teachers at Little Rock's Central High School. The school is home of a historic showdown over desegregation and now viewed as one of the top schools in the country.

Thursday's stop at Central is to be followed by a visit to a pre-kindergarten in Hamburg, then two stops at schools in Louisiana. Duncan's "Courage in the Classroom" bus tour is also scheduled to stop in Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire and New York.

Duncan says the tour will focus on the accomplishments of teachers. He says he wants to draw attention to their work and be supportive to help improve the nation's high school dropout rate, which is at 25 percent.
