PUTNAM COUNTY - The Putnam County Sheriff's Office confirms the body of a semi truck driver missing since early Wednesday has been found.
At around 9:25 a.m. Friday, authorities recovered a body approximately 900 feet from where the driver's abandoned vehicle was found - near the intersection of County Road 15 and H-13 in Greensburg Township. His body was found in a cornfield.
It's believed 74-year-old Clyde Mayo of Martinton, Ill., somehow left his route and attempted to cross high water on CR 15 near the Blanchard River. The loaded truck was swept off the edge of the road by the current crossing it.
It's thought Mayo left his truck and was quickly overcome by the extreme temperature and force of the water.
Mayo was from the eastern Illinois community of Martinton, which is about 60 miles south of Chicago.
The Putnam County Coroner will perform an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.
