DEFIANCE, OH - More layoffs coming for
GM
Powertrain in both Toledo and Defiance.
A company spokesperson tells FOX Toledo News, beginning
Monday, February 16th about 100 GM workers at the factory in
Defiance will be laid off. The following week, the plant will
experience a near-total shut down, idling some 1,200 workers.
Roughly 100 employess will remain working at the plant that
week.
The Toledo plant on West Alexis Road will idle the second and third shifts for the week of Feb. 23rd.
Toledo's Powertrain plant has been experiencing various layoff
situations since late summer when the facility began switching over
from the 4-speed to the 6-speed product. Some hourly workers have
been off the job since that time. Another 600 hourly workers were
laid off from the Toledo Plant in December.
According to
General Motors,
all layoffs at this time are considered 'indefinite.'
