FOX TOLEDO - The Stormtracker Chase Team was launched in March 2009 to provide live coverage of severe weather on-air and online, aiming to enhance our ability to provide you with life-saving information.
Through the use of multiple web cameras and live chats, FOX Toledo provides a new, thrilling and interactive way to deliver information and video while reinforcing our strengthening weather brand and staying true to our “no hype” promise.
Here’s how:
> Live video streams from two cameras – Chase Cam and Team Cam. Chase Cam gives you a look at weather conditions as the team sees them; Team Cam provides a behind-the-scenes view of the team, allowing them to interact with viewers during the live chat.
> Live radar with GPS provides an image identical to what the team is viewing on Stormtracker Mobile Doppler. The GPS markers on the map let you see exactly where the Stormtracker Chase Team and other storm spotters are in relation to the storm.
> Live chat lets you provide feedback, ask questions and even report conditions in your neighborhood, adding a new level of interactivity to our severe weather coverage.
After every chase, members of the team will post a story detailing their experience, as well as any photos and video they shoot along the way.
In addition to all this, the Stormtracker Chase Team also serves an important role for the National Weather Service. Along with countless other storm spotters in Northwest Ohio, the team will report severe weather to the NWS, giving them eyes on the ground. This information is used to decide if a watch or warning should be issued.
The team is comprised of three people: a driver, a still photographer and the team leader.
