DOWNTOWN TOLEDO - The City of Toledo is looking at the possibility of laying off about 300 employees as part of a way to fill a more than $20 million budget hole, mayoral spokesman Jason Webber told FOX Toledo News late Thursday afternoon.
Webber said the plan is based off of Councilman Frank Szollosi's budget proposal, but is currently "purely speculative."
The number could be higher or lower than 300, Webber said.
“If council suddenly decides to approve the mayor’s plan… maybe they can avoid that,” Webber said.
He added that city officials are working on nailing down exactly who will be laid off, from what departments and when.
Webber expects more information to be released Friday or Monday.
