TOLEDO, Ohio - Twenty-seven-year-old Robert Beckett Jr., who works for Toledo's Water Distribution Center, was arrested Wednesday by US Marshals after he allegedly raped a 7-year-old girl.
Toledo Police Capt. Ray Carroll told FOX Toledo News his detectives have been investigating this case for over a month. In September, the victim and her mother contacted police about the alleged rape.
After an extensive investigation involving interviews and physical evidence, detectives had enough to charge Beckett with one count of rape. Police are not revealing the relationship between Beckett and his alleged victim in order to protect her identity.
Captain Carroll said his investigators are still working this case and trying to figure out if there are other young victims allegedly abused by Beckett.
According to AFSCME Local 7, Beckett is a member of the union and has worked for the city of Toledo for the past seven years in the water department. Representatives from the city and the union refused to comment on this arrest.
Beckett was arraigned in front of Toledo Municipal Court Judge Ruth Ann Franks Thursday morning. His bond was set at $75,000. He, due back in court Dec. 22 for a pre-trial hearing, is being held at the Lucas County Jail downtown.
