TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Crystal Bowersox won't be the only former Toledo School for the Arts student performing at the Valentine Theatre May 28.
Tatiana Owens will be her opening act.
Owens recently graduated from TSA in Downtown Toledo, and already the 18-year-old is getting some national attention.
The singer/songwriter, who graduated in 2010, is already making a name for herself in New York City. She says this isn't the first time being on the same stage with a huge celebrity, but sharing the stage with Bowersox is definitely a big deal.
It's the song "Pendulum," and her song "Hazy" that's given Owens some national buzz. The singer/songwriter is hoping she'll get to sing one of the two at the May 28 benefit.
The first show at 7 p.m. is sold out, but less than 300 tickets remain for a second show at 10 p.m.
"I'll probably sing one. I haven't gotten with the band yet but I'll be singing the one that was on 'Love and Hip Hop' on VHI called Pendulum," said Owens.
The TSA graduate says both of her songs have been on music channels VH1 and on MTV, and they've each received thousands of hits on You Tube . Since moving to New York City, she's met and opened for a lot of celebrities but she's really excited to be on the same stage as Bowersox.
"It's great to go back and perform with alumni again I miss everyone," said Owens.
"Tatiana has known what she wanted to do ever since she started this school," added David Saygers. TSA's artistic director, who isnot surprised that Owens has excelled quickly. Saygers is hopeful she'll go even further.
"I think any audience seeing her would immediately recognize her as a real professional," he said. "It's really great to have students come back, especially after they've proven themselves successful and you can still get backstage and get an autograph from them."
