TOLEDO - Tymara Spears is a Toledo gospel artist who is spreading her ministry through music.
The 33-year-old has her own production company, and she sings every Sunday at Christian Community Church on Nebraska Avenue.
Spears writes music, inspired by life, hardship, and love. But those songs can also be meant for a higher power.
"I'm 30, so I'm not hip-hop, and I'm just right in the middle, dealing with real life issues," she said. "My album covers everything from marriage, marriage problems, to 'I'm tired Lord, help me, I messed up, forgive me'."
She says, it's real talk that people can relate to. She has to be passionate about what she does.
"If I don't believe it, it's not sincere, and it won't sound like it."
This musician has always sang in church. It's an important place for her.
Tymara's father was the pastor here for years.
"With my father being a pastor, my mother being a voice teacher, I didn't have a choice, and I have been singing non-stop ever since."
Tymara makes sure she's confident when she gets up in front of a crowd.
"I'm a whole different person once I get on stage. My sister's trying to find a name for my other personality but it's just a whole different me."
Regardless, Tymara is trying to send a positive message about life and the City of Toledo.
"I keep hearing about the race riot that we had here and other negative things that have happened here, different crimes and what not. I would like it to be when someone says 'Toledo,' that there's actually something positive that comes out, real talent, anointing ministry."
