TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - A major factor in the security of your financial future is who is handling it. But how do you know how capable your financial advisor is?
Ultimately, the person who has the greatest interest in your financial success is you, so don't just hand over you hard-earned money to anyone.
You can check on your advisor at AdvisorBackgroundCheck.com or start by asking yourself the following questions:
Is my advisor willing to meet with me at least once a year? He or she should always be aware of any changes to your goals and objectives. Don't settle for an advisor with a "I know best" attitude.
If they have the license and proper training, then they should be able to explain what's going on with your money. Is my advisor up to date with what's going on in the world? With what's happening in different industries or currencies? In fact they should want you to learn about and understand your investments.
Another question: is your advisor doing adequate research? Is he or she up to date with what's going on in the world? Your finances could be affected by global markets, by technological advances, or even the news of the day.
Also, beware of red flags. For example, if your advisor says you're diversified, just because you have several different investments inside a mutual fund - that's not true diversification. You should have all kinds of investments both in and out of the stock market.
A good advisor lets his or her plan speak for itself. They don't speak poorly of competition. Judge by what financial plan makes the most sense.
Bottom line, when in doubt, get a second opinion. You do that with your health right? Why not your financial future?
