Kristi Leigh is FOX Toledo's newest reporter, and is very happy to be working in Toledo, because she grew up right outside of it, in Maumee.
Home-schooled through grade and middle school she learned to be an independent thinking, self-motivated person. Her mother used to call her "my little reporter" because she would ask so many questions.
In high school, she enjoyed a cross-cultural experience, spending an entire summer in Greece. She's also been to Italy, Switzerland, France, Mexico, and Roatan, one of Honduras' Bay Islands.
While working during her college years, she opted to take a year off to study and obtain her series 7 securities registration to work as a licensed stockbroker. This experience gave her the business knowledge to implement a business section for her hometown newspaper, The Maumee Mirror. She was also an editor and reporter for her college newspaper; The BG News at Bowling Green State University.
But Kristi's true passion has always been broadcast journalism. She was very involved with her campus television news station, BG 24 news, where she served as a reporter, an anchor and a producer. She won many awards such as Reporter of the Year, Best Anchor and Best Package. She even won the Outstanding Broadcast Student Award from the department of journalism at BGSU.
Other broadcast experience has been an internship at WTOL and then an internship at WLIO in Lima, where she received several on-air experiences, including lead stories.
Outside of school, her photojournalism experience enabled her to do a video package for a financial firm that was later used as part of a successful television advertisement. She also created a short documentary regarding real estate on the Island of Roatan, Honduras.
Kristi has also dabbled in radio, co-hosting and writing for the Financial Coach Show on NewsTalk 1370-AM WSPD.
Throughout all of her outside experiences, Kristi remained dedicated to her academics, maintaining a 4.0 in her journalism sequence and graduating Magne Cum Laude.
Before landing her ultimate goal, to become a reporter, Kristi worked with WTO5, Toledo's CW. She voiced and appeared in several commercials, hosted local events and an infomercial, and co-hosted the 2008 LIVE BCSN/WT05 simulcast of The Red White and Kaboom fireworks.
Kristi says she owes any and all of her accomplishments to her family and her faith in God. She's been an active member of her church; volunteering on the drama team, among other things. She also managed to find time to get married three years ago and just celebrated her daughter's first birthday.
