Shaun Hegarty is the field anchor for FOX Toledo News First at 4 and First at 10.
Shaun made the long trip to FOX Toledo from South Texas where he was a reporter and producer for KRIS-TV the NBC and FOX affiliate in Corpus Christi. He covered a variety of stories from the Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental shooting of a hunting buddy to the flow of steroids into South Texas from Mexico.
His most memorable story during his time at Corpus Christi had to be his ride with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels which caused him a slight bout with air sickness.
Shaun graduated from Syracuse University with a dual major in Broadcast Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communication and Political Science from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2003.
While on the SU hill, Shaun was the Sports Talk Show Director at WAER radio. His duties included overseeing the post game call-in talk show for Syracuse football, basketball and lacrosse. He also hosted a weekly sports issues show.
His most cherished memory while at Syracuse, other than meeting his future wife, was covering the 2003 Men's Basketball Championship as the Orangemen (yes, when he was at SU, the team were still called the Orangemen) won their first NCAA title in school history.
Shaun won a couple of Syracuse Press Club awards in 2003 for Best Radio Sports Show and Best Radio Sports Story.
By far Shaun’s greatest accomplishment at Syracuse was meeting his wife Sara. The couple married in May 2006. They have a cat named Bella (she runs the house). The Hegartys welcomed their first child, Leah Afton, on Friday, April 11, 2008.
Shaun grew up in Langhorne, Penn., a suburb of Philadelphia, and is an enormous Philly sports fan. The Eagles provide most of the heartaches year in and year out.
