Laura Emerson

Laura Emerson has been FOX Toledo News' primary anchor  since the station's introduction of a news department in January 1996. She anchored the city's first-ever 10 p.m., half-hour broadcast.

Since her time in the Glass City, Laura has seen the transformation of FOX Toledo's news content expand and evolve to what it is today, from a handful of employees to a competitive news team that has snagged five State of Ohio Outstanding Newscast Emmys.

A native Hoosier and Ball State University graduate, Laura compares Northwest Ohio to her formative years in Rome City, Ind. After working in radio and public television in high school and college, Laura landed her first full time television job in Fort Wayne at WKJG, now WISE.

At WKJG Laura began to immerse herself in the television production as a producer, assignment editor, reporter, and eventually weekend anchor.

Her next stop took Laura, and her husband Bruce, to Colorado Springs, Colo.  Of her many assignments, she covered the military. Some of her most memorable pieces included a tour of NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command deep inside Cheyenne Mountain.

Laura learned whitewater rafting and how to snow ski while in the Rockies.

After three years in Central Colorado, she and her husband moved to Northwest Ohio and to WUPW to help shape the city's new FOX affiliate.

Over the past 11 years Laura has really focused on the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan community. She has had the pleasure to read to students, and has volunteered her time and talents to organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Anne Grady Center, The Victory Center, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The American Cancer Society and the Children’s Miracle Network.

Laura and her FOX Toledo family are proud to honor one of their own, Ryan Serber, who died of brain cancer in January 2006. In Ryan's memory, they partake in the annual Ryan Serber Memorial 8k, held in September in West Toledo.

Ryan was a former FOX Toledo News anchor who was with WUPW from 2000-04.

When Laura’s not scrolling through videotape looking for a good sound bite, she’s often busy cooking up new recipes, gardening, or reading. Her co-workers receive frequent gifts of produce during tomato season.

And when she is away from the station, you might catch her and Bruce, who is a horse trainer, riding horses in Oak Openings Metropark.
